The brief
A film about period poverty that had to be honest without being bleak. The subject is silence, so the animation had to give it a voice that a young audience would actually sit through.
Approach
This was a collaborative piece: SAIC, Bonelessons and the people in Mbare who helped make it possible. The animation carries testimony rather than commentary.
Stylistically it stays warm and hand-made. Hope is the register, not pity, which is a harder note to hold for three minutes than anger would have been.
